Special note: Security on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus is very tight. All vehicles are inspected before entry onto the campus. All visitors must present picture identification (i.e., driver's license, passport, government or military identification) and go through a metal detector and personal property inspection (purses, briefcases, back packs, etc.) to enter the Natcher Center. Please allow plenty of time because inspection areas can be very congested early in the morning. Ground Transportation

By Taxi From Local Airports to NIH:

Via Metrorail to NIH:
Metrorail service is available from Reagan Washington National Airport and from Union Station (railway).

• From National Airport, board a Yellow Line train (marked Mt. Vernon Square), and transfer to a Red Line train (marked Shady Grove) at the Gallery Place-Chinatown station. Exit the train at the Medical Center Metro stop.
• From Union Station, board a Red Line train marked Shady Grove or Grosvenor to the Medical Center Station.

The station's escalators come out on the NIH campus. There is a walkway from the Metro station to the Natcher Center. Registration will be on the lower level.

Driving Directions to NIH

Please note: Visitor parking is extremely limited at NIH; if at all possible, take public transportation. There is a Metro station on the NIH campus with accessible shuttle bus service to the main buildings. Short-term metered parking and long-term attendant-controlled parking are available to visitors at a cost of $2 per hour for the first 3 hours or $12 per day.

From Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI):
Take the Baltimore-Washington Parkway south toward Washington, DC. At I-495 (the Capital Beltway), head west toward Silver Spring/Bethesda. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 34, which is Route 355 (Wisconsin Avenue/Rockville Pike), and head south toward Washington/Bethesda. Follow the signs to the designated entrances for visitor access.

From Dulles International Airport:
Head east on the Dulles Airport Access Road for approximately 13 miles. Exit onto I-495 (the Capital Beltway), heading north to Bethesda/Baltimore. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 34, which is Route 355 (Wisconsin Avenue/Rockville Pike), and head south toward Washington/Bethesda. Follow the signs to the designated entrances for visitor access.

From Reagan Washington National Airport:
Head north on the George Washington Parkway for approximately 12 miles. Exit onto I-495 (the Capital Beltway), and head north to Maryland. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 34, which is Route 355 (Wisconsin Avenue/Rockville Pike), and head south toward Washington/Bethesda. Follow the signs to the designated entrances for visitor access.

From Baltimore and All Points North of Washington, DC:
Take I-95 south toward Washington, DC. At I-495 (the Capital Beltway), head west toward Silver Spring/Bethesda. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 34, which is Route 355 (Wisconsin Avenue/Rockville Pike), and head south toward Washington/Bethesda. Follow the signs to the designated entrances for visitor access.

OR

Take I-95 south toward Washington, DC. At I-495 (the Capital Beltway), head west toward Silver Spring/Bethesda. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 36 (Old Georgetown Road), and head south for about 2 miles. Follow the signs to the designated entrances for visitor access.

From Virginia and All Points South of Washington, DC:
Take I-95 north toward Washington, DC. At I-495 (the Capital Beltway), head north toward Silver Spring/Bethesda. From the Beltway (I-495), take Exit 34, which is Route 355 (Wisconsin Avenue/Rockville Pike), and head south toward Washington/Bethesda. Follow the signs to the designated entrances for visitor access.

OR
